- 15:20 – 16:10 Panel: Collecting for Social Impact
- Contemporary art collectors are increasingly embracing roles as cultural catalysts, using their platforms to commission new work, support emerging artists, and engage with civic and social issues. Collecting today often extends beyond private ownership to include the creation of foundations, public programming, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. These practices are reshaping the cultural landscape, positioning collectors as active participants in public discourse and community-building – and sometimes as lightning rods for controversy. What responsibilities come with this expanded role, and how is it redefining the future of collecting?
- Moderated by Farah Nayeri, Culture Writer, The New York Times
- 16:10 – 16:15 Audience Questions
- 16:15 -16:35 Networking Break
- 16:35 – 17:20 The Future of the Museum: Local Roots for Global Institutions?
- Art institutions are increasingly challenged to honor local cultural heritage while actively participating in global artistic discourse. Navigating this dual role demands blending tradition with innovation and physical presence with digital access. As institutions embrace more inclusive practices, sustainable models, and support for local artists, they redefine what it means to serve both community and culture. How can they remain responsive to local needs while contributing meaningfully to an interconnected global landscape?
- Moderated by Farah Nayeri, Culture Writer, The New York Times
- 17:20 – 17:25 Audience Questions
- 17:25 – 17:30 Closing Remarks
- Achilles Tsaltas, President, Democracy & Culture Foundation
KROMA cultural organization returns to Art Athina 2025, presenting the new children’s educational program “Little Athina” on the weekend of September 20 and 21.
Little Athina is a creative journey for children who wonder: What makes a city real? Is it the buildings and monuments? Is it the people? Is it the history or perhaps the small, everyday moments that bring its streets to life? Through artistic workshops, children are inspired by Athens and its many facets to create, imagine, and discover their own city within the city.
The aim of the program is to cultivate in children a deeper relationship with their city, encouraging them to see it as a place of shared life, collaboration, and inspiration. Through the process of art, children learn to observe, express thoughts and feelings, and propose new ways in which Athens could be in the future.
With painting, collage, theater, photography, crafts, and more, young participants are invited to explore the concept of the city as a living organism. The program encourages them to collaborate, express ideas, and find new ways to perceive Athens – not only as a geographical location but as an experience and inspiration. Participation is by pre-registration from Monday, September 15, with specific ages and participant numbers for optimal implementation.
Together for All Children
The Life is For All team is participating for the second time in Art Athina and, in collaboration with KROMA, is shaping the fair’s workshops so that they are also accessible to children and teenagers with learning difficulties and neurodevelopmental differences. Drawing on the experience of numerous workshops during its first year of activity in schools, museums, and public spaces, Life is For All collaborates with educators and artists to present a series of inclusive activities for children in the Zappeion atrium. Its specialized staff will create conditions that reduce sensory overload and integrate auditory, visual, and tactile elements, ensuring that the workshops address the full spectrum of children and teenagers, both with visible and invisible disabilities, enabling them to express themselves, socialize, and participate fully in the cultural activities of the fair.
Life is For All is a non-profit civil company (AMKE) founded to promote inclusion and the rights of people with learning difficulties and neurodevelopmental differences in everyday life, with initiatives aimed at making neurodiversity accepted, empathy practiced, and inclusion a policy and a lived reality. By opening dialogue with families, the educational community, the art world, and businesses, Life is For All brings these values into practice through actions in schools, municipalities, cultural centers, and conferences.

From Materials to Action – Art & Hobby
At the same time, the collaboration with Art & Hoy, which over the past two years has supported the program by providing materials for the workshops, is this year expanding: in addition to their support, they will also present their own workshops, aimed at teenagers and adults, further enriching this year’s Art Athina program with new experiences.
With a history dating back to 1935, Art & Hobby is one of the oldest and most beloved art supply and craft stores in Greece. Three generations later, we continue to serve the same passion for art, providing artists and creators with high-quality materials and specialized guidance. From acrylics and oils to paper and the most contemporary DIY supplies, we collaborate with leading global brands to offer solutions for every need. Through our stores and our e-shop www.hobby.gr, we support artistic expression, balancing tradition with the modern needs of creators.
Interactive Experiences That Stand Out
As every year, in addition to the organized workshops, Little Athina will also include free artistic activities, open to all young visitors of Art Athina.
“Athens for All”
During the Art Athina weekend, LIFA will present the special project “Athens for All”, designed for children of all ages as well as any adult who wishes to participate. It is a spontaneous, ephemeral, and sensory art game, unfolding with flow and continuity, during which participants will create small flat clay portraits on pieces of colored paper, revealing emotions and moods through the layering of the material. Gradually, the portraits will be arranged in a grid on cubes and rectangular forms, evoking the urban geometry of the city. Facilitators and co-creators of the project are Rena Gyftoula and Andromachi Mavrou, visual artists and educators who conceived the idea for this action.
“Deconstruct the Art” – Create Your Own Narrative with DIMY
Interactive installation for young and older visitors
What happens when we “deconstruct” a work of art?
DIMY’s artists draw inspiration from the strange and imaginative world of children to create original compositions. At Art Athina 2025, DIMY brings these works to life by transforming them into an interactive game: shapes and forms become pieces waiting for you to connect them in new ways! Design your own figures, imagine new stories, and see how the artist’s narrative transforms through your own creativity. Because art is not just to be seen; it is to be lived, shared, and to test the limits of our imagination again and againDIMY draws inspiration from the strange, imaginative, and spontaneous universe of children. DIMY’s visual arts offer aesthetic comfort for the whole family and are created in collaboration with selected artists. DIMY also organizes experiential art events that serve as spaces for play, experimentation, and pause, aiming to reshape the relationship between the artwork and the creator, as well as to create new ways of connecting with the audience.

The Acropolis and Parthenon are not just monuments; they are the gaze and soul of Athens. Houses with Acropolis views are considered unique and highly sought after. The desire for a “view” is not only aesthetic or luxurious but a deeper human need to connect daily with the symbol of the city’s history, identity, and light. This project starts from that need: even when the physical view is absent, the Acropolis lives in memory, imagination, and the hearts of Athenians.
